Details of Incident:
My wife and I were camping at a family Fourth of July get-together at my sister's site in a
small valley area outside of Cazenovia, WI.
It was about 2 or 2:30 AM and though everyone was in their tents blissfully asleep, I was still
wide awake. I thought maybe some cool night-air might help me get sleepy, so I stepped outside
my tent to enjoy what I rarely see in the city - a beautifully clear, starry country sky. (By
the way, I was sober)
I sat there taking in the view for a few minutes, when it seemed that the stars were slowly
winking out over the treetops about 50 yards to the East. (My left)
It was then that I realized that the stars weren't fading at all. But some kind of slow moving,
wedge-shaped silhouette was masking them!
This ink-black shadow-triangle had tiny white lights at the bottom/tips of each corner and
traveled across the sky above me so slowly it almost appeared to be hovering like it was
searching for something. I had no idea of it's size, but if you cut a triangle out of paper
with 6 - 7" inches to each side and held it at arms length, that would have been about the
approximate scale. So it could have been a craft 50' long 500' in the air, or 1000' long at
5000'. I don't know.
The cleared area that I was camping in is about 100 yards wide, with tree line on both sides
about 50 yards to each side of me. When the object came over the NE tree line, and finally
passed out of sight over the SW trees, at least 3-4 minutes had passed. So I suppose the
speed-ratio could be roughly calculated if someone took the time to do it. I do recall though,
that I had plenty of time to grab my binoculars and study it, and also try to wake my wife.
(The binoc's didn't reveal anything. It still looked like a black shadow, only bigger)
After it had passed I just sat there awe struck thinking about it. And not more than 10 minutes
later it returned on the same course it came from, at the same rate of speed. I was playing
with the idea of trying to catch the craft's attention this time by signaling with my Coleman
lantern, but decided against that. I don't think I slept at all that night, waiting for it to
return again, but it never did.
While the object was overhead, I tried to wake my wife to come out and see it, but she thought
I was crazy or pulling her leg and went back to sleep. Next morning she did remember me trying
to wake her, so she knew I saw something. My sister, (who owned the property we were on) was not
surprised at all by my story and said they see that kind of stuff around there all the time. (??)
One more thing, we were camped by a pond, so there were plenty of frogs croaking, and crickets
chirping, but all the while the thing was overhead I was enveloped by total silence. I don't
know if it was because I subconsciously tuned the noise out, or something else. It also felt
like it was harder to breathe, but that could have just been anxiety.
To this day I still don't know what it was I saw. Since then I have read reports of other black
triangles being sighted around the world.
I've only told a few close friends about this incident, and one of my buddies emailed me this
site and suggested I make an "Official" report. Personally, I don't care if anyone believes me
or not.
