Details of Incident:
I was at home watching TV, I decided to step outside of my house and smoke a cigarette. While outside,
I noticed a large number of aircraft strobe lights SouthEast of my position about midway between the
horizon and vertical. I counted 6 (six) aircraft in all. I stood there watching these aircraft fly from East to
West at a fair rate of speed. I heard jet engine noises but the aircraft were not flying super-sonic,
there was no sonic boom. After watching these aircraft for 10 to 15 seconds I noticed that slightly ahead of
the aircraft were another set of moving lights. The second set consisted of 2 (two) lights that were orange in color
and steady, they did not blink like a strobe. After further observation, it appeared to me as if the aircraft
were pursuing the orange lights. I got this impression because the aircraft were maneuvering a lot compared to
the orange lights. After about 2 to 3 minutes the orange lights started to separate, one took a slight
turn to the North, while the other one continued West. The aircraft then split up into 2 (two) elements
consisting of 3 (three) planes each. The last thing I observed before all of the aircraft disappeared from my
view in the Western sky, was it looked like the aircraft were trying to surround the orange lights, like
the "fur-ball" fighter aircraft from when they are dog fighting. This whole sighting lasted about five
minutes.
The orange lights could have been other conventional aircraft with their anti-collision
strobes turned off. With the distance being so great between me and the aircraft the red and
green navigation lights on the aircraft would appear as a single orange light. At this time,
I do not know what the orange lights were, but I will say that seeing six aircraft in such close
proximity to each other around Sheboygan, WI, day or night is in and of itself unusual!
