I was driving west on Old Sauk Road (just past Whitney Way) in Madison, Wisconsin when I saw ahead of me what I thought was a plane. As I continued west, the object appeared to be stationary and I drove under it. It estimate it to have been about 30-40 feet in length, maybe 10-15 feet wide, hovering at an altitude of 200-300 feet. It appeared to be shaped roughly like a boat. There were lights or windows running along each of the sides and there appeared to be people at the windows, at least black circles in the "windows" which I interpreted to be occupants. There seemed to be about 10 "occupants" on either side of the craft. The craft was basically dark (it was evening) except for the yellow light in the window. Note: none of these lights were blinking. It did not appear to have wings. It was possibly a helicopter, but it didn't have any blinking lights and made no sound (in my experience helicopters are quite loud). The sighting was about 1-2 miles west of the UW hospital heliport, however. Not sure what I saw but was puzzled enough about it to file this report.
