I was at Long Lake Campground when I observed what I thought was Mars. But as I looked for the stars, none were visible (cloudy)! Object was identical to the current appearance of Mars, same color, same brightness, same apparent size. However, it was below the clouds and quite a bit higher in the sky for that time of night. I have over 30 years experience in astronomical observing, this was no plane, meteor, satellite, space shuttle, helium balloon, or prankster. It was motionless, silent, and simply vanished after 2 minutes. It cast no light on the clouds and looked exactly like Mars. If the sky were clear I would have thought it was Mars 20-30 degrees west of where it should have been due to bending light rays. I was not drinking or otherwise intoxicated in any way. I had also seen a hoax last summer, 2 helium balloons with light sticks in them and glow rings attached to them. This wasn't close to that nor did it disappear into the clouds-just blinked out.
