Details of Incident:
returning
from observing the 4th of July,2005 fireworks, I looked up at the stars before
entering my house at the backdoor near the unlit yard. Something caught my eye
at 2 o'clock (if facing east) and 11 0'clock (facing south. As I looked at a
pattern of stars that looked like a constellation, one began to move north, then
a second started moving south. I asked my wife if she saw what I was looking at
and she said yes, "it's probably an airplane" but there were no safety lights
flashing, only a single light which looked like a moving star. The second
object, heading south, disappeared under the tree line in about 10 seconds but I
tracked the first (and brighter)with my naked eye as I asked my wife to get the
binoculars. As she handed me the binoculars I said, "put them in my hand", for I
didn't want to take my eyes off the light. Then I looked at the area in the sky
to make a mental marker as I placed the binoculars over my eyes. I momentarily
lost the object but, using th!
e brightest object in the sky for reference, located it again. I then tracked it
for another 20 or so seconds. From one end of it's path to the other, it seemed
to travel in a straight line, (not an arc) My wife said it may have been a
satellite but that doesn't explain the second object moving south.
