Details of Incident:

I'm starting to type this report about 20 minutes after my sighting, so the details are still fresh in my mind. I should start out by saying that I have been interested in this subject before, but I've never actually witnessed anything like it and I've told myself I wouldn't believe in the phenomenon until I saw it for myself. I'm still not sure if I believe now, because I didn't get the greatest view of the object, but I figure it's worth a report because it definitely wasn't a plane or helicopter.

At about 6:15 I was playing a computer game and heard a loud rumbling noise. It was loud enough to feel in the ground, and lasted uncharacteristically long for a jet plane. I didn't do anything at first except turn my computer's sound off so I could hear it better. At first I assumed it was a plane, but it had a different tone, it was extremely low in pitch and I could just barely feel a rumbling. I decided to look out my window. Frankly, I was surprised to see anything at all because the view out my window is mostly blocked by the wall of a nearby house and a bunch of trees. The only way I can see any sky is to the northwest, and I was startled to see an orange/red/yellow cluster of lights moving slowly in that direction.

I couldn't tell if the lights were blinking or if the light was twinkling through the tree branches between the object and myself, so I went out into the back yard to get a unobstructed angle. I was freaked out to find that the cluster of lights was blinking in a totally unusual way that a plane or other known flying object would not blink. It's hard to describe, but it was as if the object had many strobes, and each would turn on red, then fade from red to orange to yellow, to white, and then go out. There were 5 or 6 strobes, and they were going repeatedly right to left in my view, which I guess would be clockwise if the object were round.

Unlike many UFO reports I've seen, the object was not moving particularly fast or making seemingly impossible turns. It was cruising slowly over a heavily populated area. The rumbling sound I heard was very loud at first, and when I first spotted the object it was at a steep angle, nearly overhead from my house. It continued in a straight line going west-by-northwest, at what looked to be a constant altitude. There was nothing behind the object except stars, so it was impossible to figure how big it was, but when I first saw it it appeared about the diameter of a half dollar coin held at arm's length. It took about 5 minutes (estimated) for the object to reach the horizon.

As it was nearly gone, I noticed another light that looked out of the ordinary. This one was a plain white strobe, blinking very quickly. It pulsed many times per second like those strobe lights you would see at a club. This one was going incredibly fast, from southwest to northeast. I couldn't tell how near it was or give you an estimated size. It was pretty much just a silent pinpoint of light, very bright, sparkling its way along. It only took 25-30 seconds to cross the entire sky.

There was a small private plane in the air throughout this entire incident traveling west, and I'm 100% sure he would have seen both objects. Also, a large 4-engined plane passed almost directly over my house heading due south. The only thing out of the ordinary was that it was flying very low, and had two white lights instead of the normal red and white.

What I saw didn't scare me outright, but it definitely gave me goosebumps. There was a tangible weirdness in the air and I heard dogs barking and a baby cry. The rumbling noise was as loud or louder than a jet and I think anyone in the neighborhood (in the whole city, probably) would have heard it, but I'm guessing that a lot of them just figured it was a plane and didn't bother to look.

To be fair, there is supposed to be a meteor shower tonight (18th November '06), and the second thing, the white one, might have been a meteor. The blinking could have been caused by it flaring up and breaking into pieces as it fell. I can't say because I've never watched a meteorite before. But the orange cluster of lights was REALLY weird looking and definitely not any of the typical things people mistake for UFOs.
