Details of Incident:

Around 7:30 P.M. Thursday night I walked out on my deck on the north side of the house to get a little of the warm air that had settled in over the lakeshore area. The sun had set a short time before, but the sky was still a clear blue with no clouds. At that time I observed what I thought was a star at about a 50 degree angle to the North. My first thought was that it was still a little early for a star to be out. Having lived in this location for almost 20 years my second thought was that I had never seen a bright star like this in that location of the sky before. I watched the star for a couple of minutes and then decided to go in and get a pair of binoculars to try and get a better look. I got the binoculars and observed it appeared circular in shape and was quite bright but yet looked brighter on the western side of it. I could detect no movement and thought it must be some unusual celestial event. After about five minutes I returned to the house for a few seconds to put the binoculars in the house. I then came back outside and was quite surprised to see the object was gone. I now realized what I had been looking at was not a star. While watching the "object" I had also observed a number of civilian or military jets pass through the sky but none of them were anywhere near the object. Jets passing over is a regular thing as I believe it may also be an air corridor to Minneapolis from Chicago or Detriot. It was very strange that all the while I observed the object it never moved and then seemed to vanish in a number of seconds. Since I had no frame of reference I had no way to determine how high the object was or at what distance. Having seen a number of TV programs dealing with UFO's and physical effects they can cause, I also found it a little interesting that on a radio news cast on Saturday morning they reported that late Thursday the nuclear power plant at Point Beach about a dozen miles from where I live, had reported a shutdown of the plant due to some type of inaccurate instrument readings late on Thursday. It struck me as a strange occurance and reason to shut down the plant. I do not know if this had anything to do with what I saw, but I have seen enough TV programs that seem to hint at such problems not being unusual when UFO's are sighted in the area. I cannot say that what I saw would not have a normal explanation but it just did not seem to fit any easy explanation in my experience.
